The taproot produced by this plant closely resembles that of rapeseed as opposed to radish. A benefit to having this brassica instead of the others, is that when it’s life cycle is complete, it has a higher carbon to nitrogen ratio than the others, which makes for great residue and organic matter building. In addition to residue building, African cabbage has been noted as being fairly heat tolerant and performing well even on poor soils.
